Welcome Back to School Fall 2023
This year we welcome many new leaders within the Diocese of Gaylord Schools! Penny Clemens as Superintendent of Schools; Stacey Mochty at Holy Family School in East Tawas; Heather Glasby at St. Mary Cathedral School in Gaylord; Maria Somsel at St. Mary of Hannah School in Kingsley; Leslie Summers at Manistee Catholic Central in Manistee; Maureen DeYoung at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Middle School in Traverse City; Joseph Carlson at St. Francis High School in Traverse City; and Greg Meiser at St. Joseph School in West Branch. I ask for your prayers as we guide our staff, students and families.
As our principals throughout the Diocese begin having meetings with staff they will once again focus on the second year of the Eucharistic Revival. Along with their priests they will be planning ways to foster a love of Christ through the Eucharist. Ultimately, the goal is to set the hearts of their school and parish community on fire to the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Eucharist Revival
Relationship building takes time; in order to build a living, loving relationship with Jesus Christ, we need time to encounter Him in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Therefore the U.S. Bishops have made this a three-year mission, beginning on The Feast of Corpus Christi on June 19, 2022. The Eucharistic Revival began with widespread Eucharistic processions and adoration. In our own diocese, Bishop Walsh visited each vicariate celebrating a Holy Hour and a Half series. During these celebrations, the faithful were able to spend an hour and a half with catechesis on the Eucharist, Benediction, Adoration, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
June 11, 2023, began year two, Year of the Parish Revival. During this second phase, the faithful will foster a love for the Eucharist through the celebration of Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, missions, and catechesis on the Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity at the parish level.
During the third year of the Eucharistic Revival, the National Eucharistic Congress, July 17 – 21, 2024 will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. This historic event, is where more than 80,000 Catholics will gather to reconsecrate themselves to the source and summit of their faith. Throughout this year, Catholics who have enkindled a fire in their hearts, are called, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit to share the gift of the Eucharistic Lord!
This is an exciting time to be a faithful Catholic and join in this mission of falling in love with Christ through His greatest gift, the Eucharist!
Yours in Christ,
Penny Clemens
