Thank You for Your Participation in Our Catholic Art Contest!
The Diocese of Gaylord extends a heartfelt thank you to nearly 50 middle and high school students who participated in the 2024 Diocese of Gaylord Art Contest. Your creativity, talent and devotion have made this contest a truly inspiring journey. We are grateful for the beautiful pieces that reflect the love, peace and joy that Advent represents.
After careful consideration, we are excited to reveal the winner of this year’s contest:
Cecilia Balog
St. Francis High School- Traverse City
We congratulate Cecilia for her outstanding contribution, and we celebrate this winning work as a shining example of faith through art. The winning piece will be recognized on Bishop Walsh’s 2024 Advent card arriving in parishioners' mailboxes in early December. Read about Cecilia in the January/February 2025 Faith magazine.
Bishop Walsh and the selection committee liked Cecilia's artistic use of color. Mary appeared to be crossing over heaven and earth. And Cecilia's contrast of the dark sky and the vibrant colors shows when Jesus came into the world, he brought light.
Bishop's Advent card also includes a second piece of art from the art contest created by Reghan Hoffman, a student from St. Michael's High School in Petoskey. This simple yet elegant depiction of Mary was a wonderful addition to the inside of the card.
See the November/December 2024 issue of Faith magazine which features the Blessed Mother and Child artwork created by Grace Broz, a student from St. Michael's High School in Petoskey, for the contest. This beautiful rendition accompanies the Immaculate Conception article on page 30.
The Diocese of Gaylord would also like to recognize all the talented artists who submitted their work. Your passion and dedication have touched our hearts, and we encourage you to continue sharing your gifts with the world. May your artistic journey be blessed and your creativity continue to inspire others. Thank you once again to all who participated, and we look forward to more opportunities to celebrate faith through art in the future.
