Sacred Music

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.”

Sacrosanctum Concilium, 112

Whether through the timeless rhythm of Gregorian chant or the rich melodies of choral and congregational song, sacred music enhances the beauty and solemnity of the Liturgy. As Saint Augustine puts it, to sing is to pray twice. It aids the faithful in lifting their hearts up to the Lord, allowing them to enter more deeply into the mystery of Christ’s presence at the Mass.

Diocesan Gregorian Schola

The Diocesan Gregorian Schola is a dedicated ensemble of singers committed to preserving and promoting the Church’s rich tradition of Gregorian chant. Diocesan Celebrations Choir

The Diocesan Celebrations Choir brings together gifted singers from across the diocese to lead music at major diocesan liturgies, including ordinations, Chrism Mass, and other solemn celebrations. The choir is open to experienced vocalists with a desire to praise God with their talents and lead the faithful to the “fully conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 14).

The Diocesan Celebrations Choir is directed by Dr. Wayne Wyrembelski, Director of Music at St. Mary Cathedral. An invitation to join the choir is shared at the beginning of each year by the Office of Worship and Liturgy.

Diocesan Music Ministry Chapters

The purpose of the Diocesan Music Ministry Chapters is to allow musicians to gather locally for fellowship, to discuss ideas and trends, and to share resources. Each chapter operates independently, basing their content on the unique needs of the local parish musicians. Across the Diocese of Gaylord, all six vicariates have their own chapter, each
led by a dedicated volunteer. This leader coordinates meetings, prepares agendas, communicates with members, and serves as the local “liaison” between the chapter and the Diocese. Below, you’ll find the contact information for each chapter leader.
