The Diocese of Gaylord’s Hispanic Ministry continues on a path of renewal and growth to fulfill the mission of serving the diverse needs of the Latino communities in Northern Michigan. The ministry accompanies these community members from the experience of faith, providing human and spiritual counseling, offering legal guidance and implementing technology to achieve greater closeness.
In June, as part of the efforts to reach Spanish-speaking faithful throughout our diocese, a Facebook page was created: Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, Traverse City. Every Sunday, the bilingual holy Mass is transmitted live on this Facebook channel. This fall, the diocese acquired translation equipment for simultaneous interpretation, making it possible for those who do not speak English to be part of diocesan events even though the event might be in English.
CATECHESIS FOR YOUTH, CHILDREN AND ADULTS
The Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe also began catechesis in preparation for first Communion and confirmation for Hispanic children and youth. The chapel also provides spaces for face-to-face and virtual faith formation for all the faithful.
DECEMBER GUADALUPANA CELEBRATIONS
Among the scheduled activities are the morning hymns to Our Lady at 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, followed by the midnight Mass. On Dec. 12, there will be the Holy Mass for the Feast Day at 6 p.m., followed by a concert with Guadalupano songs. Additionally, there will be a solemn Mass presided over by Bishop Jeffrey Walsh on Dec. 15 at noon, all at the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Traverse City.
