Bishop's Statement on Passing of Pope Benedict XVI

Bishop Jeffrey J. Walsh prayerfully responds to the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI:

With confidence in the resurrection, the Church mourns the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. He will long be remembered as a world class theologian and faithful shepherd. His three Papal encyclicals, Deus Caritas Est, Spe Salvi and Veritatis in Caritate, exemplify his rich understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ and his pastoral heart. Benedict reminded us that “being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or lofty idea, but an encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and decisive direction.”
